Tuesday 14 May 2019 Rays Babies are born
Around 3 in the morning Bobbie got a text from Quinn. It wasn’t a surprise, the miracle twins seemed quite content to stay in Ray’s tummy for almost the whole nine months. She was stuck in the hospital on bed rest for nearly a week and had to have a sling for her tummy when she moved around. The babies came out with a c-section.
Bobbie went to the hospital first thing in the morning, she brought 2 teas, One for Ray and one for Quinn. Trixie was already there and scooped one tea saying Ray was had not finished dry heaving and was coming off the epidural and demurral.
The babies were in 2 bassinets and Bobbie wasted to see them right away. “Ohh, they are Gandhi babies”.
“What?” said Quinn
“My Dad used to say newborn babies either looked like Gandhi or Winston Churchill.”
Trixie laughed. “These two angels have lots of hair so didn’t really look like either. What did you decide to name them?”
Quinn smiled. “They will be Coraline Ruth and Edith Ann.”
“Can we call them Cora and Edie, I love those names. They are family names too Quinn; your great great aunties were Cora and Edie.”
The babies looked the same and Bobbie asked if they were identical and Quinn said. “No we should be able to tell them apart soon.”
“Bobbie.” Said Trixie “I was talking with the girls and I think they should live at the motel until we can get their place ready for them. Rocco was held up for a few weeks and after that, he didn’t want to disrupt Ray so the work hasn’t even started. We talked about them coming out to Thurston manor but Quinn said they would be closer to home if they lived at the motel.”
Bobbie nodded and said there is a main floor double suite where we could set up a long term rental. Trixie interrupted. “I’ll pay the rent as my Baby gift”
“Great that’ll be 6000 a week ha, ha.”
Trixie rolled her eyes.
“Ray how long do you have to stay in the hospital?”
“I want to wait until my milk comes in the babies to start to nurse regularly but they tell me I probably can go home in 3 days.”
“I’ll be able to nurse in a couple weeks.” Said Quinn.
“You’ll have to tell me how that works.” Said Trixie.
Bobbie nodded. “I know what to get you. I’ll get you two nice rocker recliners that you can use in the motel and then take home when your place is done. Then you can each rock and nurse a baby.”
Trixie said. “Girls, why don’t you give us your keys and we’ll get you all moved into the motel so you’ll have some clothes and baby things. Your place is going to be emptied for your renovation anyway. Who is taking care of your animals?”
“Dad is taking care of the farm animals, he is sending his assistant every morning. Thanks for offering to finish packing up and moving for us; we need to learn to handle the babies.”
Ray shook her head. “Honey, you should go with them and show them what we need, I’ll get the nurse to help me when I need to nurse the twins.”
Quinn reluctantly agreed. “I really don’t want to miss anything but I’ll go feather our nest.”
Quinn’s Dad, Gary, arrived to see his grand kids. Gary was a nice looking tall dark haired man with a few flecks of grey. He was a veterinarian and was obviously a proud Grampa.
“Hi Uncle Gary.” Teased Bobbie, that was a running joke since Gary was only a few years older than Bobbie and always seemed like an older sibling to her and Trixie, not an uncle. Gary was her father’s youngest brother.
“Quinn, your mom is parking the car, she knew I was too excited to wait.” And he hugged her.
“We were just heading out to get our house all organized Dad. See you later.”
“Ha ha that’s fine Quinn, I’m not really here to see you anyway.”
“Bye for now Uncle Gary.”
Their first stop was the lazy boy store. Bobbie insisted that they may as well get something that lasts. Quinn chose a lovely burgundy for her chairs and then said. “We’ll see if this works with Lorne’s vision.” And texted him. The reply was instant saying that a nice forest green would be better. Green it was, they had some in the store. Bobbie paid and they arranged to have them delivered to the motel that afternoon.
They drove out to the farm and picked up a blender, all the baby clothes and diapers and bottles, their little toys and their breast pumps; One for Quinn and one for Ray. There were 2 antique cradles that were Quinn and her brother’s. Bobbie and Trixie moved to the living room and sent a text to Drey asking him to pick the pile of stuff up with the van and deliver it to room 6. He texted back two baby emoji’s and. “Yay.”
Quinn packed several bags and they put them in the cradles.
It was getting close to noon so Trixie looked at Quinn.“You must be starved, you may as well come to lunch for you last meal before you are totally in baby land.”
Quinn agreed. “Dad and Mom will take care of Ray.”
“Do they know that your brother is the baby daddy?”
“Yes we told them. They were both freaked out and happy. Will’s coming on the weekend and says he took a week off to help. You know I’ve been taking hormone shots the last three months. They just stopped them today and with a little work I should be able to nurse the babies”
“That’s huge Quinn. I never knew you could do that.”
“I Guess you’ll need to practice with a breast pump for a while.” Said Bobbie.
They decided on the Mexican place for lunch. They settled in their seats and crunched on homemade nachos and salsa while they chose their dishes. Quinn ordered a fajita rap with beef for 2 to go and they all shared a nachos and cheese and a chicken fajita for 2 that they all shared. Quinn tried not to eat much because she wanted to share with Ray. Bobbie told her. “Fill up, your Dad will feed Ray.”
They finished up and dropped Quinn, the doggie bag and a breast pump off at the hospital. Trixie and Bobbie returned to the motel.
They parked at Bobbies and walked through to Room six on the first floor. Lorne was there directing and organizing and Drey and Roger were moving furniture. Effie was running around making sure the room was clean.”
The love seat in the room had been moved to make room for the lazy boy chairs and the bags had been unpacked and 2 change tables had been placed near the bathroom and a book shelf with diapers and all the other baby stuff was beside them. There was a cradle on either side of the bed in the biggest room. Lorne put 2 end tables, together in the middle of the room and said the chairs would go on either side. He stood back and said “I think we’re ready for babies, We have two cribs and we’re going to set up the second bedroom as the kids room after they grow a little bit. Will can stay in there for now. Then he looked at Bobbie and said now lets go to tea and have some wine.”
They walked over to the Restaurant and entered and saw quite a few tables were full. Many had sweets and coffee or tea in front of them and Mink was looking a bit ruffled. Lorne and Trixie sat down, Bobbie went over to Mink and asked if they needed help.
“I’m practically run off my feet and I have only served half the tables and half of what I already served need coffee or tea.”
“I’ll take coffee around, then tea to top everyone off”
Mink said. “That’s a big help Dear.”
Bobbie wanted to chat with guests anyway, she saw several people she knew, it seems they had drawn the yacht club crowd. There were no men in the crowd except Lorne. She moved around the tables chatting and filling coffee and when she got to Trixie, she said I’ll take your order and meet you back here if you go get our bar order. She poured herself a coffee and said, I’d like an ounce of Drambuie on the side. Trixi and Lorne both thought coffee and liquor sounded good and they all wanted a piece of NY cheesecake too.
Bobbie could see that Mark was back in the kitchen so Mink was a little less busy and eventually they came over and sat down. “Well darlings, if we are to provide the best service here, we are going to need more staff.”
Trixie Said. “Chase is busy because there were 5 or 6 guys sitting at tables in SPOKES bar, with a cheese boards and beer and it’s not even supposed to be open.”
Bobbie nodded. “If the door has to be open to provide drink service for the restaurant and the guys just wander into the closed bar and sit down; we may as well just let them stay. They are either going to sit there and pay to eat and drink or sit in their cars and play with their phones while they wait for their wives. I have taken gender relations back 50 years by creating a ladies tea room and the Gentleman’s club on the other side.”
“I don’t know.” Said Trixie. “You’re giving them what they want and they all have a choice. Now we just have to hire more waiters and another cook because Mark is working 14 hour days, I think.” They all nodded.
Bobbie said “I’m going to call Joan I need to have a meeting with her. She can point me to some wait staff and a sous chef” She excused her self and walked towards SPOKES while calling Joan. Joan suggested they meet at the college where she had access to her contact information.
