Trixie’s News

Thursday Nov 7 2019

Things with the condo project were good and the motel was humming along well and Bobbie’s new friend Tilsey was gone for now. Trixie was checking the videography courses at the community college and was planning to audit one. Barb had Bobbie’s Stargazer Condo spreadsheet and was contacting the people they needed.

Bobbie had the morning to herself and she was thinking about Christmas. Her Knitting was almost done and everyone was getting the socks and Mitts and hats she had created. She had unravelled 3 of her husband’s cashmere sweaters and used her drop spindle to ply the thin strands together. Eddie was getting a navy hat with yarn from his dad’s sweaters and Charlie was getting a green one. She kept some red cashmere for herself for something she would knit after Christmas. Last year she used yarn she got form her dad’s sweaters. She still had a big Tupperware with all those sweaters and the yarn was a lot of work to create. Sometimes she just held a few plies together and knit. The socks for Trixie and Barb were made of commercially produced sock yarn.

She got out her drop spindle and Fossie padded over and hunkered down and watched intently. She was lucky he didn’t mess with her knitting more. There were some really mischievous cats on the internet. Her last project was for Johnny. He wanted lobster claw mitts. They had the main finger and thumb separate and the first finger and thumb were open like she made her fingerless gloves. The last pair he had leather palms and he wore them out. She was plying together 2 strands of hard-wearing wool sock yarn. She could just hold the two strands together but she wanted an even tweedy marled look with the dark blue and forest green colours. When she had her yarn prepared, she put everything away except Johnny’s project and went into her media room, put on YouTube and with Fossie on her lap, knitted happily the rest of the morning.

Around noon, Trixie knocked and came in. “Hi Bobbie, lets go down to the restaurant for a snack I’ve got some news.”

“Sure Trixie, it’s so nice to have you home again.”

They headed down and sat on the patio that was now heated with two outdoor propane heaters. Mark came out to say hi to Trixie and she promised to go back into the kitchen to talk to everyone after they ate.

They ordered and Bobbie took a sip of water. “So, what’s your big news, Trixie?”

“Well, I went over to the community college to see about auditing a videographer course, when I got to chatting with one of the instructors. His day job is producing a news program at the local TV station. So, I told him my idea for a podcast, and that I am more interested in sound editing than actual video. And I wanted to make it about helping people with their budgets and finances.”

“Kind of like the lady who had the jars to allocate money you had to spend?”

“She’s great but I want to explain insurance and budget and pension planning and all that too, for individuals and small businesses.”

“That sounds like a good idea. We all could use that kind of advice.”

“So, the producer likes my idea and wants to work with me to make an actual TV show.”

“Your going to have a TV show? So, you will host and also have some creative input.”

“I have yet to work out the details but I meet with him next Monday at the station.”

“I can’t wait until I can watch you on TV. Maybe I can come on and you can help me with my condo development. My story has pathos.”

“I’m not sure that you’d be a sympathetic subject, what with inheriting everything and so on.”

“I’ve been so stressed about it. I’ve lost all perspective.”

“You are “The Man”now; maybe I can help the people who is going to buy one of your condos. Some of them might be first time buyers.”

Bobbie’s phone dinged. “Saved by the bell. Oh, it’s Eddy. He wants me to call.”

“I have to take off anyway sweetie. I’ll head into the kitchen and say hi and we’ll see you at the market on Saturday.”

“I’ll have to start having the Friday night dinner parties again. I’ll see you Saturday. Are you going shopping to find some TV clothes?”

“Ha ha, not yet I have to work on my character first.”

Trixie left and Bobbie sat back in her chair and called Eddy. “Hi son, what’s up.”

“Hi Mom, I have a favour to ask, well two actually. I’m stuck on the night shift tonight and Jen is at a conference until tomorrow. Mack is taking care of the kids and I want you to check on them.”

“Eddy, I’m sure Mack will be fine.”

“He just called ma and asked what brand of fish and chips the kids like to eat. I’m going to order them and can you pick them up and take them over and make sure everything is OK?”

“I could bring some dessert and just pretend I’m there so the kids can show me their rooms…”

“And maybe bring them some salad or something.”

“Eddy, your kids won’t eat salad.”

“Wally likes coleslaw.”

“Don’t order coleslaw from the fish place, I’ll make some of mine and I’ll bring carrot sticks for everyone and I have and apple pie I can bring for dessert.”

“Yum, can you drop off some apple pie for me too.”

“You can drop over for breakfast pie after your night shift.”

“I just might. Thanks Mom.”

“Wait Eddy, what’s you second favour?”

“This is a lot. I have back-to-back surgeries on Monday and it’s the 11th so all the kids have choir stuff and ceremonial stuff to do for Remembrance Day. Can Charlie and I drop off the kids Sunday night and can you get all of them to their events on Monday?”

“I think I can handle that dear. Why don’t you all come over for Sunday dinner and just leave the kids with me when you leave.”

“That sounds good Mom, I’ll let Charlie and June know and Jen too.”

Bobbie said goodbye and walked away thoughtfully. She headed up to the laundry room and saw Effie and Roger. “Hi guys how’s it all going?”

Roger smiled. “We got all our rooms cleaned and I’m washing all the sheets and towels.”

Effie was holding her tablet. “Things are going well we have a few travellers coming for a one-night stay and we’ve filled up for the weekend.”

“You guys sound busy. I just talked to Eddy and all the grand kids are coming to stay with me on Sunday night. I was wondering where Drey is. I know I’ve said that You’re off on Remembrance day but I’d like to give him a bit of overtime to drive the kids and I over to the cenotaph on Monday.”

Effie smiled. “I think Drey would like that. I’ll make sure all your bedrooms are made up to hold the kids.”

“Tanks Effie, I’ll text him and find out for sure. I’m having everyone over for dinner on Sunday. I must go plan my menu.”
